Unreal takes place
on the set of a The Bachelor-style reality
dating show called Everlasting.
Everlasting’s
Executive Producer is Quinn. Quinn is sleeping with her boss (the show’s
creator), Chet.
Episode One takes place during filming of Everlasting’s season premier episode,
with a new male hero (called “The Suitor”) and a new cast of women, competing
to win the show and marry him.
Quinn shocks the crew by announcing that she has rehired
Rachel, a former producer who had been fired the year before for ruining Everlasting’s romantic finale be
drunkenly crashing the final wedding scene. Rachel was fired and the show
pressed charges against her, for which she is now in a recovery program and
doing community service.
Her ex-boyfriend, Jeremy, is a cameraman on the show and is
now engaged to another crew member.
Despite everything Quinn has rehired her, saying that she
has a natural talent that none of the other producers can match.
Everlasting’s premier episode is shaping up to be a disaster and
Rachel saves the day, proving that Quinn was right to hire her back.
Quinn tells Rachel that if she keeps doing a good job she
may be able to settle the case against her.
